u/CheerfulStandpoint33 14d ago

Please tell me he’s going in the yearbook!

186

u/Blade_982 14d ago

Yes. It very much looks like he was very well behaved. More so than the children probably.

Id frame that in an instant

267

u/The0Wolf1 14d ago

How is the dog so well mannered in front of the camera?

It's like the photographer told the dog what pose they neede and the dog nailed it

154

u/Liimbo 14d ago

I would sincerely hope a guide dog would be extremely well trained/obedient

57

u/trukises 14d ago

And smart as f**k!

Source: I'm a guide dog puppy trainer/host, and breeding bitch host.

Inteligence and trainability are more desirable traits than docility.

26

u/harlemrr 14d ago

Always blows my mind how some dogs can be so insanely intelligent and do work as guide dogs… and then I’ve got neighbor’s lab that broke all her teeth chewing rocks (no nutritional deficiencies, just liked rocks).

5

u/fluffyxsama 14d ago

Just because I dog is well-trained and obedient doesn't mean they can just do whatever you ask them to. They are dogs. They don't understand English. If you want on-command coquettish ingenue, you have to train that, which I don't think is part of guide dog training.

6

u/Liimbo 14d ago

I mean sure that can't do whatever you ask them to do if you're getting crazy. All that's required here though is a "sit" in the correctly location and it's probably going to be looking at you whose right behind the camera taking pictures. The rest is just the dog being cute.

1

u/Ok_Skill_1195 14d ago

Yeah the only thing impressive is the dogs remained still, and that's not really impressive for a guide dog because they are trained to do INSANE shit.

2

u/Ok_Skill_1195 14d ago

Except being polite and quiet in public is exactly part of their training, sitting on command is part of their training, staying still during human commotion is part of their training...

What part of taking this photo do you believe wouldn't have been covered for a guide dog? They're not having it jump through flaming hoops.

20

u/Dull-Signature-2897 14d ago

That's literally what guide dogs are bred for: to be obedient and docile.

13

u/gruvccc 14d ago

Guide dogs in the UK live with a volunteer for a while where they become used to homes, the outside world, the workplace etc and begin basic training.

Depending how they react to all of that depends on whether they progress to full training, which is presumably the stage this dog is at and why they’re visiting a school (unless it’s just to show the kids).

They’re basically trained to be well mannered and calm in public from the off, as well as obedient.

6

u/LadyK8TheGr8 14d ago

My FIL’s service dog was composed and well behaved during a house fire in a massive thunder storm. There was no time to find a leash too. A camera is nothing! The bestest of good boys right here!

65

u/SnowFoxxx_2r 14d ago

We had a dog at our school. He was called Lucky and was a avalanche rescue dog, before he retired and was now partially living in my teachers office.

We loved him, and he looked very similar to this one.

The cutest of doggos.

The award for the Goodest Boy goes to…

13

u/Beautiful_Fee_655 14d ago

What a good looking dog!

11

u/Kalfadhjima 14d ago

That's a really photogenic dog.

9

u/NayraDC 14d ago

I also trained a guide dog for 2 years and bought him at my university. My math teacher said he was the most attentive student, since the dog was always looking at him while he was talking. He was not wrong, doggo loved going to the university!

(Sorry for my bad English!)

3

u/sunberrygeri 13d ago

Hey friend! Your English is great! Complete sentences and actual correct punctuation.

1

u/NayraDC 13d ago

Thanks, that's sweet (◕‿◕✿)

21

u/_disguisenburg_ 14d ago

They sent pictures to a blind person

21

u/Scoutielue_ 14d ago

The majority of blind people still have some remaining vision. Many guide dog trainers I know send picture books of the dog growing up so they and family can enjoy the pictures.

But it says in training so it is most likely the trainer isn’t blind as it’s pretty rare for blind people to train their own guide dog

13

u/MadeByTango 14d ago

The person making the post is training the guide dog, not the person receiving the guide dog.

5

u/didwanttobethatguy 14d ago

I wish I was half as photogenic as your dog

12

u/FunPassion2u 14d ago

2

u/showmethatsweetass 14d ago

My love 💓 I just wanna hug them up so bad. My first pup I ever had was a yellow lab named Honey. I miss her very much.

2

u/Zirie 14d ago

Well, ain't he a dapper boy!

2

u/DerogatoryDuck 14d ago

These pictures are so old that dog's great great grand puppies are probably older than it.

2

u/tjaysallboutsoul 14d ago edited 13d ago

These are some good poses

2

u/tanner_jetturbulence 14d ago

She's gorgeous

And obviously the goodest girl. She deserves a pup cup for being so good!

4

u/inrageds 14d ago

but how can she see the picture?

7

u/Scoutielue_ 14d ago

The post says “in training” so not a full guide dog yet. It is pretty rare for a blind person to train their own service dog. Nearly all are trained by a guide dog organization meaning this was most likely posted by the raiser and they are not blind.

But it’s also important to know that the majority of blind people still have some remaining vision. So some are still able to enjoy pictures of their guide dog

15

u/thatsastick 14d ago

I had the same question

edit: looking at it again I’m assuming “in training” means that this woman is raising a dog to become a guide dog and doesn’t actually need the dog herself.

11

u/pomegranate_man 14d ago

Because guide dogs aren't just for people who are blind - lots of medical reasons for needing a guide dog.

4

u/Scoutielue_ 14d ago edited 14d ago

Guide dogs are only for people who are blind or visually impaired. You’re confusing the term service dogs with guide dogs- and though all guide dogs are service dogs, not all service dogs are guide dogs.

Not to mention the majority of blind people still have some remaining vision.

→ More replies

4

u/tootsonboots 14d ago

Guide dogs are exclusively for people who are blind or visually impaired, so there aren't "lots of medical reasons" but just two.

It's true that people have trained dogs for other medical conditions, but those aren't guide dogs.

3

u/thirteen_moons 14d ago

The majority of blind people have some vision, but I think she fosters the dog for the school.

1

u/Sdrake01 14d ago

That's what I want to know.

1

u/CilanEAmber 14d ago

A good question. Maybe she's not fully blind, but blind enough to need a dog. Perhaps she has some kind of looking glass to see things up close.

1

u/winnipeginstinct 14d ago

shes training the dog, likely isn't blind herself

3

u/wunderbraten 14d ago

This is sooo blessed! <3

2

u/Mountain_Jello7747 14d ago

They sent pics to... a guide dogs owner?

4

u/hangfromthisone 14d ago

It was a dog on training, so it was sent to the trainer.

Man Americans are dense

4

u/MadeByTango 14d ago

Ignorance to how guide guides are trained doesn’t mean someone is “dense.” They’re in today’s 10,000. What a weird bit of bigotry laid out there...

1

u/hangfromthisone 14d ago

I'm having a really bad end of the year. Personal and family issues. I guess I'm a bit acid today.

2

u/Mountain_Jello7747 13d ago

Nice excuse for being a dick

1

u/thirteen_moons 14d ago

The majority of blind people have some vision.

1

u/Mountain_Jello7747 13d ago

Ummm...

1

u/thirteen_moons 13d ago edited 13d ago

What?

Only around 10% of blind people have no vision at all.

There's a lot of interesting diversity in what the blind can see! Imagine only having a sliver of your peripheral vision!

1

u/ohmahjah 13d ago

It should be against the rules to post tweets without dates/times attached

-10

u/Eudes_Correa 14d ago

A few weeks later will receive a expensive photo bill

5

u/njoshua326 14d ago

Weird amount of downvotes from people who've never had to spend the ridiculous money school photographers cost.

1

u/Eudes_Correa 13d ago

Exactly, seems like they never had to pay a huge amount for a few pictures.

When I was a kid at school (I’m in England) one of the teachers had a yellow Lab who came to school each day and was in the library. We’d take it in turns to read to him and he had his own school picture taken as well!

1

u/AshtonnXwitch 13d ago

They know his good angle

1

u/thejellymanster 13d ago

I'm a learning support assistant and one of my kids has a service dog. The dog has a school ID that goes in her jacket next to her service dog ID...she also has a Bunsen burner license 🤣
